Penile Implant Types

There are two main types of penile implants:

semi-rigid bars

Semi-rigid devices are always solid. The penis can be bent away from the body for sexual activity and towards the body for concealment.

What happens on the trading day?

Your urologist (or a member of her team) will briefly review your history and medications and re-discuss surgery with you to confirm your consent.

An anesthesiologist will see you to discuss general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia options. The anesthesiologist will also discuss pain relief with you after the procedure.

We usually give you a pair of TED socks to wear and give you an injection of heparin after your surgery. These help prevent blood clots from developing and traveling to your lungs. Your healthcare team will decide whether to continue wearing the socks after you go home.

Details of the Operation

How Does the AMS 700 Penile Implant Work?

Inflating Your Implant

• Grasp the tube with one hand over the quenching block.
• Using your other hand, quickly and firmly tighten and release the pump bulb.
• Continue squeezing and releasing the bulb several times until the rollers are filled with liquid and become upright.
• Do not press the extinguish button while tightening the bulb.

Deflating Your Implant

• Grasp the tube with one hand over the quenching block.
• Using your other hand, place your thumb and index finger on opposite sides of the extinguisher block.
• Squeeze the extinguish button for about four seconds and then release it. Your penis will then return to a soft, flaccid and natural-looking state.

Forced Extinguishing Maneuver

• To reset the poppet valve, start the process by pressing the deflate button on the pump located in your scrotum.
• After pressing the deflate button, try to start the pump by squeezing hard, fast and strong. You may hear or feel a “pop” sound.
• Press the deflate button and at the same time firmly squeeze and rotate the rollers on the shaft of the penis for about 30 seconds. A stream of fluid should move through the pump and the device will start spinning normally.
• If necessary, go back to step 1. You can try this maneuver many times.
